Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is a lightweight XML format designed for sharing content over the web. RSS has evolved into a popular means of sharing content between sites (including the BBC, CNET, CNN, Disney, Forbes, Motley Fool, Wired, Red Herring, Salon, Slashdot, ZDNet, and more). RSS solves myriad problems webmasters commonly face, such as increasing traffic, and gathering and distributing news. RSS can also be the basis for additional content distribution services.
RSS Reader collects news in the background at user configurable intervals and warn with a little popup in the system tray that there is a new message arrived. You can click the news headline to see a short description of the news and click or open the original news web page in an RssReader browser or default browser window. RSS readers are free, and you can just download them onto your computer.
The following are the top RSS readers that browsers can get for free:
1.)Mac OS X: NetNewsWire
This elegant Mac-like aggregator is easy to use and powerful.
2.)Windows: SharpReader
Simple, but gets the job done.
3.)Linux: Straw
The best aggregator for GNOME.
4.)Web: Bloglines
Check all your feeds from any web browser.
5.)FeedDemon
A more complicated aggregator for Windows. (Win)
I myself downloaded SharpReader onto my computer...please see the Digital Drop Box on Blackboard for that part of the assignment!! :)
